MODERN

The Old – AND the New – Sung well!

Curiosity and Interest in Contemporary Music, as well as a fascination of the New and Co-Creative pieces shows up in Christian Miedl’s Repertoire.

“Don’t get me wrong: I love singing Mozart, Wagner, Strauss, and I feel my soul expands when doing so – but since my teenage years, I’ve also been fascinated by living creative composers like Rihm, Berio, Nono. Maybe even more than the traditional repertoire, Contemporary Music needs technical perfection, and an immense amount of vocal flexibilty in expression to make it sound beautiful and easy. In addition, one sometimes gets the chance to be part of the compositorial, creative process. In the end, I’m always happy and content when I’m able to give a new piece the power and speech it deserves – like it was a long-known piece of Bach, Beethoven, Mahler.“

Mr. Miedl has had the honour of personal collaborations with some of the most important composers of the 20th and 21st century, such as Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Luca Francesconi, Wolfgang Rihm, Ennio Morricone, Salvatore Sciarrino, Philip Glass.
