Vita Short-Version

 

Christian Miedl was born in Passau, Germany, where he also completed a Master‘s Degree in International Business Studies. At the same time, he studied Lied/ Oratorio Interpretation with Wolfgang Holzmair at the Mozarteum Salzburg, from which he holds a diploma „with distinction“. His vocal coaches have been Patricia McCaffrey (New York),  Margreet Honig (Amsterdam), Kjellaug Tesaker (Salzburg), and Abbie Furmansky (Berlin). He also attended masterclasses with Waltraud Meier, Gabiele Schnaut and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Among other awards, Christian Miedl holds the Oratorio-Lied Prize from the prestigious International Francisco-Viñas Voice Competition.

 

Christian Miedl  is currently a member of the opera ensemble of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. 

Guest engagements included performances at the Bremen Theater, Wuppertal Opera, Seattle Opera, Klangbogen Vienna, and the Bavarian State Opera of Munich. Central roles of his repertoire are Conte Almaviva/ LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, the title roles of IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA and DON GIOVANNI, Guglielmo/ COSÌ FAN TUTTE, Papageno/ DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Onegin/ EUGENE ONEGIN.

 

Concert appearances brought Christian Miedl to the Lucerne Festival, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Musikhalle/ Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Mozart-Woche Salzburg, Cité de la Musique Paris. collaborating with such orchestras as the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, SWR-Sinfonieorchester, Orchestra della RAI Torino, Brucknerorchester Linz, MDR Radiophilharmonie, Vlaamse Radio Orkest, Residentie Orkest Den Haag and the Hamburg Philharmonic. He has worked with conductors like Pierre Boulez, Kent Nagano, Dennis Russell Davies, Peter Eötvös, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Claus Peter Flor and Yoel Levi.

A special highlight of his repertoire marks Orff‘s CARMINA BURANA, which he also sang to highest critical acclaim at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and which he also recorded along with Stravinsky‘s LES NOCES, to be released on CD in 2010, along with a tour to US music centers such as New York City, Boston, and Washington.

 

The Lied compositions from Haydn until the recent contemporary composers has made up a central part of Christian Miedl‘s repertoire. His sophisticated, thematically arranged Lied recitals comprise a wide range of art songs. With his various programmes, he has been continuously invited to recitals such as, among others, the Swiss Festival du Lied, or the prestigious Spanish Schubertiade in Vilabertrán.
