German Baritone Christian Miedl was born in Passau, Germany, where he completed a Master's Degree in International Business Studies. At the same time, he studied Lied and Oratorio with Wolfgang Holzmair at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, voice with Kjellaug Tesaker also in Salzburg as well as Margreet Honig in Amsterdam, Abbie Furmansky in Berlin and Patricia McCaffrey in New York.

He is a recipient of the Oratorio-Lied Prize from the prestigious International Francisco-Viñas Voice Competition Barcelona.

Christian Miedl has appeared regularly at leading concert venues such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Lucerne Festival, Holland Festival, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Laeiszhalle Hamburg and Mozart-Woche, Salzburg, Cité de la Musique Paris.

He received the highest critical acclaim for numerous traditional opera roles such as Onegin, Harlekin, Figaro (Rossini), Dandini, Conte Almaviva, Papageno, Guglielmo, Giovanni, Donner, Homburg, as well as lead roles in the operas of the 21st century: Valmont in Francesconi's QUARTETT at Malmö Opera, Son in the world premiere of Liza Lim's opera TREE OF CODES at Opera Cologne, Malaspina in Sciarrino's LUCI MIE TRADITRICI at Oper Frankfurt.

An advocate and specialist of contemporary music, Christian Miedl was the lead soloist in the World Premieres of Wolfgang Rihm's DER MALER TRÄUMT with the Dutch Radio, Ivan Eröd's 3rd Symphony at the Stefaniensaal Graz, Ennio Morricone's JERUSALEM with RAI Torino, and Peter Eötvös' new version of ATLANTIS with Radio France, by personal invitation of the composer.

Orchestra concerts are a big part of his career. He has collaborated with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orchestre National de la Radio France, Orchestra della RAI Torino, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, SWRSinfonieorchester, Brucknerorchester Linz, MDR Radiophilharmonie, ASKO|Schoenberg, Vlaamse Radio Orkest, Residentie Orkest Den Haag and the Hamburg Philharmonic. He has worked with conductors such as Marc Albrecht, Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Dennis Russell Davies, Peter Eötvös, Daniel Harding, Susanna Mälkki, Kent Nagano and Simone Young.

Recent operatic highlights include his debut at Teatro alla Scala of Milan, in Richard Strauss' FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN, Billy Bigelow in Rodgers & Hammerstein's CAROUSEL at Theater Basel, Kagel's MARE NOSTRUM at the Münchener Opernfestspiele, the title role of Viktor Ullmann's DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS at Opéra de Lyon, as well as productions of Reimann's LEAR at Hamburg State Opera. He was also Calchas in a new production of Offenbach's LA BELLE HELENE at Hamburg State Opera, which was broadcast internationally on ARTE TV with a DVD issued in 2016.

His busy calendar has taken him also to Oper Bonn, Oper Köln, Opéra National de Lyon, Bremen Theater, Seattle Opera, Munich Biennale, Wiener Festwochen, and the Bayerische Staatsoper of Munich.

His recording of LUCI MIE TRADITRICI (on CD and DVD) was nominated one of the best recordings of the year by the London Guardian. Further CD and DVD releases include Orff's CARMINA BURANA, Stravinsky's LES NOCES, as well as Reimann's LEAR, and Offenbach's LA BELLE HÉLÈNE, both at Hamburg State Opera.
